"With her new single “Crying at Erewhon,” acclaimed folk artist Anna May takes one of the most devastating moments of her life and transforms it into something bright, witty, and undeniably catchy. Equal parts breakup anthem, cultural satire, and love letter to Los Angeles absurdity, the song marks a bold new chapter for the singer-songwriter while retaining the emotional depth that has defined her work" - Mundane Mag

"Anna May has turned her heartache into musical gold with “Crying at Erewhon” single .. it has elements of Jewell meets First Aid Kit meets Sarah Jarosz and Aoife O’Donovan ..

Her vocals are crisp and pristine, and Anna May is not afraid to be raw and vulnerable, and it shows. It deserves serious Grammy consideration for “Best American Roots Song.” She exuded a tremendous amount of talent and soul. If one has not discovered this bright and promising new female talent, they are truly missing out… they will be blown away by this refreshing single" - Marko Papadatos, Power Journalist, True Hollywood Talk

"When heartbreak meets sharp humor, you get a song like “Crying at Erewhon.” Anna May’s latest single proves that break-up songs don’t always have to wallow in sadness. Sometimes they’re at their best when they’re clever, self-aware, and just a little bit sarcastic .. The alternative Americana singer-songwriter leans into wit without losing the emotional weight that has become a hallmark of her music .. Anna delivers an infectious, hook-driven performance that makes the track feel bright even as its lyrics reveal lingering disappointment. That balance gives the single plenty of replay value, allowing listeners to smile while still connecting with the emotions underneath .. Her songwriting remains the star of the show. Anna has earned a reputation for emotionally rich storytelling, and here she adds another layer by embracing playful sarcasm. The lyrics paint vivid scenes while taking lighthearted jabs that never distract from the song’s emotional core … Production-wise, Crying at Erewhon successfully finds the sweet spot between vintage inspiration and modern execution ..
Anna May has steadily built her reputation through heartfelt releases, acclaimed performances, and recognition from respected music outlets. Crying at Erewhon continues that upward trajectory by showcasing another side of her artistry. It’s catchy without sacrificing substance, funny without becoming gimmicky, and emotionally honest without feeling heavy-handed. If this single is any indication of what’s ahead in 2026, Anna May is entering the year with confidence and a clear creative voice" - Rotate Magazine

"There’s an early-summer, marine-layer ache running through Anna May’s latest single—something a bit more complex than its SoCal shimmer implies ..
Crying At Erewhon” (Blackbird) falls somewhere along the pliable continuum between confessional folk and cosmic chamber pop, with nods to obvious influences like Jeff Buckley and Mazzy Star. A self-contained unit who handles her own publicity, May has done quite well on her own" - Magnet Magazine

“The juxtaposition of the cold, sterile beauty of the modern shopping experience with the warmth of human emotions is expressed pointedly yet gently in this song with Anna’s songbird vocals that hearken a bit to Joni Mitchell” - Americana Highways
